YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME By: Shells Walter

“Grind my hand, go ahead. It only makes sense that you do. I don’t understand anything you say anymore.” She turned away from her hand, now brutally ruined by the saw blade.

The man looked at her. Her hair flowed down her back with curls that lingered on her shoulders. It was hard for him to imagine her being what she was.

“No more. You can’t speak anymore. I won’t allow it,” the man said.

The woman turned to look at the man’s pleading eyes.

“Do you think me a fool? I only came here because I had no choice.” The woman looked down. Her eyes worn from the ordeal, blood still caked on her dress.

“But, you killed my family!” The man turned the saw on again.

The woman merely gazed at her hand.

“It doesn’t matter what you do. I deserve all of this and much more.” The woman looked at the man. Her eyes shown the years of the tragedy she had dealt with.

The man turned off the saw. The grinding noise of bones breaking ceased.

“Why?” The man took her battered hand out of the saw and placed it back in the shackles he had pinned to the wall. The woman forcefully leaned up.

“It’s not like I have a choice in the matter. I am what I am.” Her tongue slide across her fangs that shadowed against the barn’s walls and she smiled only for a moment.

“You killed innocent people; children, why?”

“I was once human too, like you. I had a family. Then one day I didn’t. They were all killed and I became this.”

“I don’t understand. Why were you spared?” The man creased his brow, his eyes narrowing.

The woman looked down.

“I don’t know. The creature of my kind simply said I was chosen.”

“Chosen for what?”

“That I don’t know.”

The man paced the floor. Hay scattered in places where the horses had walked and now he did as well. He sighed. The woman had destroyed his family, yet he felt sorry for her.

“What happened to this creature that did this to you?” He walked over to the woman, took her chin in his hand and lifted her face.

“He became human again.”

The man let go of her chin and stepped back.

“How is that possible, I mean how can you go back?”

“Back to being human from this?” The woman looked down at herself and then back at the man.

The man’s eyes widen in confusion. He nodded.

“Because there is a time when we can find love, it sounds a bit insane this I know, but if we take this person, have a relationship that is true, we can change back and loose the beast.”

“I don’t believe you.” The man kept shaking his head.

“I know you don’t and that’s the problem.” The woman rolled her eyes.

“Why should I believe a woman who killed my only family, sucked them dry of their blood and then sits here and mocks me?” He moved closer to her. The heat of his breath brushed across her face.

“Because Jacob the person is you.”

The man fell backwards.

“But, I don’t understand,” he pleaded.

“I came here because I had no choice. I had no choice because I was compelled to see you again; the person who killed my family and took me as one of their own. You then abandoned me, went on your way. You found her, fell in love and turned human. What I didn’t know was that you had forgotten everything.”

“No, no, I still don’t believe you.” The man kept shaking his head. His fingers dug into the dirt floor, small pieces of hay got stuck under his finger nails.

“That’s too bad, because you soon will.” The woman busted the shackles, her fangs now showing. She growled at first and then attacked.
